Support Vegan World Radio
in KPFT's Spring Fund Drive

Take charge of your health through a vegan diet and physical fitness. On today's fund drive show, you'll hear about some popular and successful approaches to achieving optimal health and fitness. From the New York Times bestseller the Engine 2 Diet, to Dr. McDougall's world renowned protocols, through vegan fitness and bodybuilding videos, our thank-you gifts will help you take a step in the right direction, while you help keep Vegan World Radio and KPFT on the air.

Our community partner today is Food Not Bombs- an all-volunteer organization that feeds the homeless healthy vegetarian food. If you choose to forego your gift, this portion of your donation will go to buy food for their services, which are offered several times each week.

Due to the pledge drive, our show will be delayed approximately an hour- tune in after the end of Democracy Now.

  The Engine 2 Diet

Professional athlete-turned-firefighter Rip Esselstyn is used to responding to emergencies. So, when he learned that some of his fellow Engine 2 firefighters in Austin, TX, were in dire physical condition-several had dangerously high cholesterol levels (the highest was 344!)- he sprang into action and created a life-saving plan for the firehouse. By following Rip's program, everyone lost weight (some more than 20 lbs.), lowered their cholesterol (Mr. 344's dropped to 196), and improved their overall health.

  Justine Mayella CD
A native of Washington, D.C., Justine Mayela has built a 25-year professional career as vocalist and musician. Because of her love for animals, Justine became a vegetarian at age 16. In 2002 she visited Farm Sanctuary, an experience that resulted in her commitment to a vegan lifestyle and her decision to dedicate her life to helping animals.

These twin passions led to her first efforts at songwriting and to this album. Accompanying herself on guitar and backed by eight accomplished musicians, Justine sings 10 original songs on her new CD, including the title anthem We Are All One Family. In songs that range from the humorous to the heartfelt, she stirs our souls and opens our eyes with the complementary themes of compassion for animals and a vegan lifestyle.

Vegeta-blues, for example, is a humorous portrait of the lonely and misunderstood vegan in a meat-eating world. For the Voiceless expresses her commitment to animal rights. And Peaceful Kingdom is Justine's tribute to Farm Sanctuary and a gentle appreciation of the animals that have found refuge there.
